My ancestors originally come from North-Eastern Italy (traceable back to about 1810) ; from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.
My father from the village of Tauriano and my mother from Barbeano.
Both villages are situated near Spilimbergo at the foot of the Carnic Alps.
The population in this region was very poor. Henze the men mainly worked abroad and came home occasionally.
In 1926 my mother accompanied my father, who was a terrazzoworker, to Holland, in order to earn a "good living" and later return to Italy again.
Returning to Italy has never taken place. Recession and the Second World War were the cause.
Not until 1952 did my father see Italy again and my mother in 1956.
My ancestors originally come from the area South of Nijmegen (traceable back to about 1780).
They were mainly farmworkers.
The oldest traceable ancestor of my father's family was a woodcutter in the village of Malden, about 6 miles south of Nijmegen.
